  • The game for NES Gyromite, is a logic arcade game developed in 1985, in Japan for the Famicom, under the name Robot Gyro. A little later the game was re-released for the U.S. market and Europe under a different name, although the entire gameplay is similar and at start-up, on the start screen, it is indicated as Robot Gyro. The game was designed for a special game accessory for the console, it looked like this:

These developers also released a second logic game for this accessory in parallel, Stack-Up, resulting in a series of two projects called "R.O.B."

In the plot of Gyromite, Professor Hector and his assistant, Vector, must get out of his lab. In doing so, they must avoid encountering enemies represented in the game by mutated birds, as well as collect dynamite scattered around the location to prevent the lab from exploding. The game is played in a set amount of time, so if you don't make it out in time, you lose.

Gyromite's gameplay is quite unusual, especially when using special accessory for the console, you can also just use a second joystick instead. There are several modes in the game: collecting dynamite for a limited time and playing as a robot. At the first launch it may not seem clear or not working. The fact is that to play it is necessary to use two joysticks, one of which is used to control the professor, and the second robot (opens doors). When you press "start" the screen turns blue - it was provided for the accessory (robot) to see the changes and press the joystick button itself. The accessory's eyepieces have special sensors that respond to this change in color.

In general, the project with the special accessory for the console was not bad and promised prospects, but apart from these two games, the developers did not release any more promised project. The fact is that the project fell precisely at the time of quite strong arcade releases from various developers, which may have hindered the development of the "R.O.B." series.

The project dropped out at a time when there were quite strong arcade releases from various developers, and this may have hindered the development of the "R.O.B." series.
