The NES game, Gyruss, is an arcade shooter originally developed in 1983 for the arcade machine in Japan. The game was ported to various platforms in 1984, but was not released on the NES until 1988.
The plot of Gyruss takes the player back to the year 2500, where humanity populated almost all the planets of the solar system and all the colonies lived in peace and harmony, until an invasion by evil aliens followed. The alien invaders defeated the human battle fleet and took over all the planets. The player will have to become a pilot of a spaceship and liberate all the planets from the enemies by himself.

The gameplay of Gyruss has all the basic elements of a shooter but also contains unusual moments - the spaceship can move on the screen not horizontally, forward and backward as usual, but in a circle. Enemy ships attack in groups, so you have to react quickly and dodge the ones you haven't managed to destroy. There are only eight missions in the game, each of which is to liberate planets, one by one. Among the planets of the solar system here are: Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Earth, Pluto and the Sun. In turn, each mission consists of three phases: fighting off four waves of enemy attacks, destroying an enemy station and battling the boss.
The NES version of Gyruss is considered an expanded version, unlike the versions for other platforms. It has additional planets, bonus missions, as well as other differences. That is why this game deserves the attention of all fans of space shooters and NES as a whole.
