The Dendy game Castlevania was originally released in Japan, under the name Akumajō Dracula or "Devil's Castle Dracula". It is the first game about the confrontation between vampires and vampire hunters, and it started a series of games. It is one of the first games that became part of the second generation of NES title.
In the game's story, Count Dracula, who was previously slain by vampire hunter Christopher Belmont, is resurrected in Transylvania after a century of peace. Belmont's son Simon, a vampire hunter like his father, goes to Dracula's castle to destroy him.
The main character's weapon of choice is the Vampire Killer, a whip he inherited by his father. It can be upgraded over the course of the game and lengthened to increase its strike range.
There are a total of six levels in the game, each of which ends with a boss battle. Upon completing the game, players can play it again on a more difficult level, unlocking new secret locations and saving all weapons.
