The NES game Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos, or simply Solstice, is a puzzle game with an isometric perspective and beautiful graphics and music.
The plot of Solstice tells the story of a fantasy world in which the villainous Morbius kidnaps Princess Eleanor on the eve of the solstice in order to sacrifice her. A wizard named Shadax witnesses the kidnapping and decides to rescue the princess, for which he heads to the villain's fortress. Morbius can only be defeated by a magic staff, which is broken into six invisible parts. It is at the solstice that these parts become visible. Shadax must find all the parts of the staff and defeat Morbius with it.
The player will have to traverse 250 rooms in Morbius' fortress, which contain various puzzles as well as hordes of enemies. The main character can jump, collect and throw objects. Various magic potions can be used against enemies, which can slow action, freeze and destroy the enemy. Spells work for the moment the character is in the room, as soon as he leaves the room, the magic loses its power. During the game a map of the rooms that the player has traversed is available, which allows you to at least somehow navigate through such a maze.
