The NES game Elite, or "Elite," is an open-world space simulator developed for the home PC in 1984. The game was developed by students at Cambridge University and was one of the first to use wireframe 3D graphics in gameplay. Elite was later ported to various other platforms, including the NES.
The storyline of the game Elite, as such does not exist. The main character - Commander Jameson, who has a small amount of money and a light battleship can travel across different galaxies in free mode. You can earn money through trade, piracy and other means, you can spend money to improve your ship. The game has several missions, such as saving people from the planet, destroying the orbital station and others, the rest of the time the player devotes to studying the world around him - galaxies, planets.
The game was initially surrounded by various mysteries and riddles, many players concluded that the game has a planet RAxxla from Holdstock's story "Dark Wheel", but after a while one of the developers in an interview disproved these speculations. The open world of Elite consists of eight galaxies with 256 planets; the developers wanted to make everything much larger, but the technical capabilities of the computers of the time didn't allow for that.
In general, the game Elite at the time of its release was a masterpiece in the gaming industry, it has been followed by many games of this genre for a decade. The game is definitely recommended to all fans of the genre and sci-fi.
