Recca, in Russian, means "raging fire" and Summer Carnival. The game involves competing in rapid-fire shooting while piloting a battleship. According to the reviews Recca is one of the most difficult shooters in the history, the game is so dynamic that it squeezes all the juice out of the console's hardware. For example, the sprites used by the developer for the explosion effects at sixty frames per second on the NES are implemented in thirty to bypass console limitations.
While Recca was unique at the time of release, the game did not gain popularity because it was released at the time the next-generation consoles came out.
