The plot of the game, the best scientists in the world suddenly disappeared. It soon emerges that they have been kidnapped by the villainous Lord OPUM and imprisoned on an island in the Caribbean. James Bond Jr. must travel to the island and rescue the scientists from captivity, as well as thwart the plans of the Lord.

The gameplay of James Bond Jr. is a classic for the platformer of the genre. The character can run, jump and attack enemies. Each level must be completed in a set amount of time. As the enemies are a variety of armed bandits, as well as mechanisms and traps. The game has a save-the-game mode with passwords that are given to the player after each mission.
