Jackal

The NES game Jackal or "Jackal" is a platform action game that was originally developed for the arcade in Japan. After the game gained popularity, it was re-released on other platforms, including the NES.

In the game you are a member of an elite SWAT team called "The Jackal" who is tasked to land on an enemy island and destroy its secret weapons, liberating prisoners of war along the way. All the action in the game takes place behind the wheel, i.e. you drive a military jeep and move around the island exclusively on it. The jeep is armed with a machine gun, as well as grenades to defeat heavy enemy combat vehicles. During the game you can upgrade the grenade launcher to a rocket launcher which shoots further and more accurately.

The enemy are enemy soldiers armed with machine guns, grenade launchers and other weapons, as well as heavy armored vehicles such as tanks, cannons, boats, etc. The game Jackal, released on other platforms differed not only in name but also in gameplay. One of the major pluses of this game's gameplay is the support for two-person play. At the time of release, the game received mixed reviews from critics, as the non-standard gameplay, which consists of constantly driving a jeep, caused many to be perplexed.
