The NES game Guerrilla War, or Guerrilla War, is a platform action game released in Japan called Guevara. The game was originally developed for arcade machines, and a little later it was re-released on other platforms.
The plot of the game, its protagonists, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro, make a takeover of an unnamed Caribbean island to liberate it from the dictatorship. On their way they meet the armies of enemies and various military equipment. You must rescue the hostages in the course of the levels, and bonus points are awarded if you accidentally kill the hostages, in which case the points are taken away.
In Guevara, it's a 2-player game so you can play both characters at once. The main characters are armed with assault rifles and grenades, but you can also collect other weapons in-game such as flamethrowers and grenade launchers. As well as walking around the island, you'll find various vehicles ranging from a wagon in an abandoned mine to a tank with live ammunition.
On the whole, Guevara is an interesting action game and is recommended to all fans of the genre. The game has gained a lot of popularity and is now valued by collectors, who are willing to shell out huge sums for the original cartridge.
