When Battle Chess was released it was quite positively received by critics and gamers, later the game received its sequels, but on other platforms, with more modern graphics and animation. PC version of course had a more interesting animation battles, but NES squeezed the possible resources from the game and it looks very good.
On the whole, Battle Chess is a classic chess game, but embellished with characters and animations and it's fun. The only, but a significant disadvantage in the NES version is the lack of a two-player option, you can only play with a computer here. Otherwise, Battle Chess is just beautiful and if you like chess, you will definitely like it.
