The Arkanoid game for NES is a logical platformer developed in the United States, which, gaining popularity, has been re-released on many other platforms.
The storyline of the game is that the Arkanoid spaceship is attacked by aliens, and the player will have to pass all the obstacles to destroy the enemies. By controlling the flying ship in the form of a saucer or paddle, the player must hit the ball(s), which in turn hit the targets, and the ball must not be allowed to fly out of the bottom field. Arkanoid resembles single ping pong, with a spaceship acting as the racket. The gameplay of Arkanoid is similar to Flying Hero, whose developers were apparently inspired by it.
Each level involves various obstacles in the form of blocks that must be smashed in order to reach the aliens. Some blocks shatter immediately, others must be hit multiple times. Some smashed blocks fall out of the bonuses that can be used to increase the area of the ship or increase the number of balls, which speeds up the process of destruction. The blocks are always differently placed and the further through the levels the game goes, the more difficult the designs become. Arkanoid has a total of thirty-six levels, the last of which has a boss fight.
All in all, Arkanoid garnered a tremendous amount of positive feedback upon its release, and its popularity helped lead to its re-release on various other platforms. The main praise Arkanoid received from critics and gamers was its addictive gameplay, which is addictive once you start playing it.
