The NES game, Karate Champ, is an arcade fighting game developed in 1984 in Japan, called Karate Dō (Karate Do) for the arcade machine. The game was later ported to various platforms, including the NES.
There is no story in Karate Champ, in the game you have to take part in karate competitions. There is no health scale in the game and a player wins by either earning points from successful attacks or by knocking out his opponent.
The gameplay of Karate Champ is standard for games of the genre, the player can inflict a variety of punches and kicks, as well as in a jump. The only difference between the gameplay, as opposed to the classic fighting game - mentioned earlier, the lack of health scale. The characters themselves look the same, the only difference is the color of the kimono. Karate Champ is one of the first NES games to feature voice acting.
All in all, Karate Champ, while fairly unsophisticated in appearance, can be a lot of fun, especially in the two-player mode the game developers have implemented.
