The plot of Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja takes place in the time of primitive tribes. A rival tribe kidnapped all the women of one tribe and two primitive men, Joe and Mac, go to the lair of the enemy to rescue them from captivity. Along the way, they have a variety of dangerous adventures, battles with dinosaurs and warriors from other tribes.
The arsenal of the protagonists contains a large selection of weapons such as boomerangs, dice, rocks, and even fire. The gameplay is a classic side-scrolling platformer. The levels are a variety of locations, such as a jungle, cave, river, volcano. Some levels contain forks, so the player can choose where to go.
