The plot of the game tells about another adventure of the main character, Bucky. This time, Bucky must save all of the members of his team, who are on different planets. The main enemies of Bucky's team are toads and their leader, because of whom all members of the team and ended up on different planets. Saving each member of the team the player can switch to him from the main character to perform certain actions. After saving all of their friends, Bucky and his team are once again captured by the toads and placed in their spaceship, where their adventures continue.

The gameplay of Bucky O’Hare is similar to the Mega Man series. The story is not linear, you can choose any mission (planet) before starting the game, except for the final level - the toad ship. The main character is a green rabbit, Bucky, can shoot and jump high. His friends have different attack traits, as well as other individual abilities, which allows each character to be used for a specific purpose.
